Drink & Draw Uxbridge

Live at The Second Wedge
Thursdays 7:00pm - 9:00pm
.
Calling all experienced and budding artists and creatives: Join us for our Drink & Draw sketch jam every other Thursday evening!
.
This informal gathering is open to those aged 19+ interested in starting or maintaining sketching or drawing practice, for fun and creative growth. (More into stitching, making or writing? Come on over - you can practice your craft among friends here too!)
Bring your own supplies. Drop-ins are welcome!
.
About your host:
From time to time, John Allen is seen backed into a corner sketching at the Wedge. He's an avid sketchbook keeper always having several going at any one time. He sees it akin to an artist's physical training program.
Designing for TV/film & new media demanded him to swap his pens for a mouse, and despite his passion for staying current with the latest digital tools, he maintains the practice of hand sketching for a variety of reasons, not least for the pure joy of it.

Coldest Night Of The Year

Saturday February 24 - 4:00pm

Schedule

  • 4:00 pm: Meet Check-in + Welcome
  • 5:00 pm: Move Send-off
  • 6:00 pm: Munch Light meal served
  • 7:00 pm: Mosey Goodbye + see you in 2025!

The Coldest Night of the Year is a winterrific family-friendly walk in support of local charities serving people experiencing hurt, hunger, and homelessness. Join us on February 24, 2024 - team up, fundraise, walk, and take a moment to look closer... because it’s cold out there.

Homelessness is on the rise in North Durham. Most of those who are homeless in our communities do not live on the streets, covered in sleeping bags; they’re your friend’s adult child who moved home with their own children, due to the high costs of rent. Or the retired parents who now live in their child’s basement because they can no longer afford their own home. Whatever the reason, North House is always there to help and assist the most vulnerable in our community.

North House provides a spectrum of housing supports for those who are at risk or in crisis within the communities of North Durham.

Join us on February 24, 2024 to walk a mile in their shoes. You can’t truly appreciate how cold it can be for someone without a home until you’ve walked 2km, or 5km in their shoes.

MURDEROUS MARCH IN THE BLUE HERON STUDIO

They say March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb.  We're not so sure.
It's been a bleak winter and as thoughts turn to spring, which seems so far away... we think, MURDER!

March 4th join us in the Blue Heron Studio at 7:30 pm for a real-life episode of Law & Order! Criminal lawyer and author Robert Rotenberg will be interviewed by 30-year veteran homicide detective and author Des Ryan.

Check out the plotline:

"A Toronto homicide detective is attacked at his doorstep when his investigation into possible links between the Nazi occupation of Italy and the murder of his brother decades later gets too close to the truth—in the new crime thriller from bestselling author Robert Rotenberg. Perfect for fans of Scott Turow and David Baldacci."

Then as that month (hopefully!) exits like a lamb, former lawyer and bestselling author Kate Hilton and Globe & Mail award-winning journalist and author Elizabeth Renzetti have teamed up to write a murder mystery that could be set in Uxbridge 👀
March 28th at 7:00 pm, also in Blue Heron Studio.

"A big-city journalist joins the staff of a small-town paper and finds a community full of secrets ... and murder."

Both events are $30 and include the book.

An Evening with The Pairs live at The Second Wedge Brewing Co.

Live at The Second Wedge
Friday March 15 - 8:00pm
.
We are delighted to announce our new co-presented concert series with festival sponsor The Second Wedge Brewery and a performance from The Pairs on March 15, 2024 that is sure to uplift you gracefully into Spring!
.
The Pairs, from London, Ontario, made their first appearance across two days of the festival last summer, captivating audiences with performances at Urban Pantry, and the festival mainstage, and we are thrilled to invite them back for the launch of this new concert series. As one of the most welcomed discoveries from last year’s fest we recommend snagging your spot quickly for this intimate evening.
.

About The Pairs

The Pairs are Renée Coughlin, Noelle Frances Coughlin and Hillary Watson. Powered by soaring sister harmonies, this quirky trio’s unbottled chemistry quickly connects them to their audience.

With three distinct lead singer/songwriters, The Pairs offer a unique blend of music with stories of life’s hope, hilarity, and hardship.

These classically trained vocalists blur the line between the stage and the crowd as if we’ve pulled up a seat around their family’s lively kitchen table. This award-winning group has been touring internationally in Canada, the USA, and Europe since 2022 and released their third studio album titled, “When Will We Find Our Way?” on October 13th 2023.

.
"The Doozies are Canadiana. Yes, that genre entails a mix of folk, country and maritime, but it also conjures scenes: A choir of voices echoing around a lake from the shoreline campfire, boots denting kitchen floors, stools arranged in a semi-circle for an encore around the bar, busking downtown before the gig to meet the local folks, starting songs with 6 strings and finishing them with 5.
"This all-string trio of guitar, stand-up bass and fiddle (or mandolin) cites a traditional sound which they are quick to question, bend or flip. They’ve played house parties and festivals and are seasoned enough to know that there’s an art to both. Fostered through different but connected avenues of the proven hot bed of the Oshawa music scene, the trio know the importance of community, both performing within it and writing about it. Musically, you will not find a tighter band around."

Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka follows enigmatic candy manufacturer, Willy Wonka, as he stages a contest by hiding golden tickets in five of his scrumptious candy bars. Whomever comes up with these tickets will win a free tour of the Wonka factory, as well as a lifetime supply of candy. Four of the five winning children are insufferable brats: the fifth is a likeable young lad named Charlie Bucket, who takes the tour in the company of his equally amiable grandfather. Murderous March

at Blue Heron Books

March 4 at 7:30pm

March 28 at 7:00pm
